Alopecia Areata (pictured above) is sudden baldness in spots. In my professional opinion, this type of balding can signify an internal issue that needs to be addressed. An example, is a deficiency of some sort or an illness. An illness may or may not be present but it doesn’t hurt to check. I personally never take these issues lightly. After 35 years in the industry, I have learned when to advise my clients to see their primary care physician to have things checked out. Once issues are diagnosed there is a possibility the follicle will reopen and the clients hair may grows back In.

Vitamins are an internal thing. Its important to visit your primary care physician to determine if there is a deficiency within your system. Listed below are the vitamins researchers say promote growth. Look for a formulation with the correct values of each one. My thing is hair restoration from within so with my clients vitamins are an important part of the process.

Over use of products can create problems with natural hair. Certain products cause a build up on the hair shaft over time. This can cause natural hair to become dry and brittle and lose its luster and shine. Hair becomes dry and brittle especially the ends when harsh non moisturizing shampoos are being used excessively and then improper conditioning at the same time. It’s important to know when your ends need cutting and when your hair shaft needs clarifying, a skilled stylist should know. We learn about build ups in beauty
school. My opinion comes from experience and then my training.

My clients color treated hair left the outer layer of her hair strands wide open, leaving the inner layer of the hair strands exposed to the elements and heat styling. Ultimately this dried out the natural oil that would normally be present in and on her hair shaft, which eventually created the situation on the left of the photo pictured above. Professional care was needed to correct the damage caused by using the wrong shampoos and conditioning systems that failed to replace what’s vital for healthy hair.

Seborreheic Dermatitis often gets written off as bad drandruff. It is flaky when its dry and pasty when its wet. Dandruff is a result of dry scalp where the skin cells naturally dry out and then falls off. This clients issue was fungal and needed extra care. It is a rash on the scalp so a medicated shampoo was needed here. Scalp disorders get mixed up all the time and treating this requires some measure professional care, because medicated shampoos can create another problem and that is dry hair. Its best to seek professional care.

A Sulfate or Sulphate its spelled both ways, is an ingredient in shampoo that is responsible for cleansing. Sulfates or Sulphates are an aggressive cleaning agent and if not properly formulated can create dry hair and a itchy scalp. Properly formulated you can have a great shampoo that cleanses well and has no side effects on the scalp.
